A good day

It’s been a good day. I was headache-free for half of it, and that alone would have made the day memorable. But to top things off, something came in the mail, I found a 20-liter stainless steel dye pot, and I picked up a couple of slicker brushes to experiment with carding.
The thing in the […]

Spin 4, Wheel 2

Some bouts of TMJ have kept me off the computer, away from reading, and away from knitting. I have, however, been able to spin, and I have something to show you. First:

There are two things here. The navy blue with the dime is Corriedale. It’s not anything you really need (or want) to […]

Spring 07, Literature and Realism

This week’s readings:
1. Chesnutt’s “The Goophered Grapevine”;
2. excerpt; Du Bois’s The Souls of Black Folks;
3. student blogs.
Every class is different, and this one is no exception to that rule. There are 17 students, it’s a fully online class, and there were 133 posts to the introductions forum alone. They’re an eclectic group, […]

A friend has been working on this sweater for her daughter for a little while now, and said daughter is in danger of outgrowing the sucker before she ever has […]

Spin 3, Wheel 1

As the title indicates, this is the third spinning result, but the first attempt at spinning with the Rose.
Last month, Karen was so gracious as to send me a small fiber gift. She didn’t know it at the time, but I have some multicolored roving waiting to be spun, and I’ve been holding it […]

And in the midst of work . . .

this arrived.

(Click for a bigger pic if you want it.) It’s a Majacraft Rose from Tracy and Jean at Woolly Designs.
DH nearly found himself sleeping in the garage as he pretended to have lost the postal notice in one of his many I-have-everything-here-but-the-kitchen-sink pockets!
I thought it would be enough to open the box and […]

Spin 2

Obviously, I’m not numbering spinning sessions, but rather spinning results. Here’s what I’ve been working on when I needed to get away from the machine:

(Ignore the tacky blue crochet thread marking the ends.)
The Stats.
Fiber: 3.6 ounces Cormo roving from Kendig Cottage.
Spun on: Cascabeles 1.8 and Bosworth .7 ounce spindles. Mostly plied […]
