Technology advances
A friend sent me this little gem. It’s an excerpt from a 2001 NRK (Norwegian television) program which was exported to Denmark (hence the Danish subtitles) then to YouTube (with English subtitles). That, in itself, is rather amazing.
Just in case the page doesn’t display it properly, you’ll find it here:

A not-so-trivial bit of trivia
According to the Craft Yarn Council of America, 53 million women in the U.S. alone knit or crochet, and the numbers are growing—particularly in the younger age groups.
That’s not including the men.
Fifty-three million.

Perceptions
Yesterday, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (aka Yarn Harlot) posted a small rant about public perception of knitters and knitterly writers. If you’ve not seen it, you should. It’s here: http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/archives/2007/02/16/represent.html.
I remember the universal shock waves that went ’round the ‘net in January when Blue Moon’s […]

A last SP9 package
Hy has been worried about this one, because it took a while to get here. I’ve encouraged swappers shipping from the States to send their mail by slow boat and avoid the huge mail costs, and I’ve yet (knock on wood) to see a package go astray. But this one did take a little longer […]

Friday and the winds of change
This was the sunrise at 0845.
Somehow, we seem to have more colorful sunrises than we do sunsets. It’s been clear and cold for the past week or so, with very cold temperatures; the cold water tap has been running 24×7 for the past two weeks to keep the pipes from freezing. But this morning, the […]

It’s the little things . . .
that surprise you. I like winter. Really I do. Except for the slosh and wet, I love clear cold days and snow. We’re in a cold spell at the moment, and temps are staying below freezing. It was -4 this morning, and that’s a wee bit warmer than it has been. But little things sometimes […]

Secret Pal 10
. . . is now open for registrations. I’m sooooooooo tempted, but the reality is that between the current yarn stash and the spinning plans, I don’t need incentive to buy more yarn.
However . . . I’ve gotta tell ya that I’d be the first in line for a fiber swap! (And yes, […]

Speaking of . . .
the Wooly Designs spindle . . . It arrived. It arrived, it arrived, it arrived. (Imagine that with the “white gal can’t dance” jig and you’ll get the idea. Black and white text just doesn’t carry the same emotion here.)
It’s beautiful. It’s got a 4.25-inch whorl:
and a wonderful 20-inch stem which can handle tons […]
