Lace Swap package and Turning Green . . .
The package is in the mail. Really. I just dropped it off, and I’m laughing at myself. See, I bought this huge padded mailing envelope. Not intentionally; it just happened to be the only one currently in stock which was larger than a Monarch-sized sheet of paper. No worries, I told myself. I […]

Wooot!
I am such a dweeb. I’ve been looking through the photos a colleague is making for me as part of a larger research project, and found myself nigh-well dancing as I looked at a certain group of cemetery photos and his notes. It’s not that the information is new, undiscovered, or even particularly spectatular. It’s […]

On the needles now
With Seraphim finished, and considering my vow to clear up the last of my UFOs, I’ve picked this up again:
It’s been bundled up in the basket for the past year while other things took priority. There are about 2 inches left to knit at the top, then the sleeves. Colors are indistinct here, but are […]

Seraphim completed
This was my first venture into the world of knitted lace. The pattern is Miriam Felton’s Seraphim, and while I spent nearly as much time moving backward as I did forward (entirely my own fault and usually the result of missing or inadvertent yarn overs), I have to say that I enjoyed it thoroughly. […]

Blocking
Seraphim was cast off this afternoon. Blocking was . . . interesting. Especially since I’ve never really done it before, and never on this size project. T is on nights (which means sleeping during the day), so blocking on the bed was out. The floors in the house are wood, with the exception of the […]

An epiphany
I’ve realized that the number of hair dressers who can cut curly hair decreases exponentially in relation to how desperately a curly-haired person needs a hair cut. Look for someone who can cut curly hair when you happen to be in a country which has traditionally had a population of straight hair (in this case, […]

Lace swap
I’ve taken the plunge and signed up for my first swap:
and I received my partner’s name yesterday. I’ve been reading her blog, and I’ve gotta tell ya, I’m totally intimidated. I’m sending lace stuff to someone who actually knows what she’s doing and is miles ahead of me with decades more experience. Whoof. Cross your […]

Not quite “the dog ate my homework,” but . . .
This story even made the Norwegian news. The Norwegian text-TV news blurb was just a teaser and we had to go to the BBC site in order to get the rest of the tale. Written with a brilliant touch of British humor, T and I just had to laugh. Poor Barney.

Passions and soapboxes
I’m passionate about many things.
I have an entire set of soapboxes about animals and what should be done with people who abandon, neglect, abuse, or mill-breed them—but I’ll save that for another day.
I believe that family and friends need a higher priority than we (I) tend to give them.
I believe that adding coffee to chocolate […]

Hitra
. . . is a very large island off the western coast of middle-Norway. It’s not quite due west of Trondheim, and while I admit I’m not keen on the hassle of getting there (twisty roads = car sick) or on hauling stuff from the car to the cabin (no path, all uphill = a […]
