This is today.
The year’s first snow. I don’t expect it to stay long; it’s too wet and the temperature is a wee bit too high (35F). But this is it. It’s late, but winter has indeed arrived. By the way, those black spots above the tree line? That’s not lens dirt. Those are birds. Normally the trost have left by now, but the mild weather has fooled them and they’re still here. Out my window, I can see them circling like homing pigeons in restless arcs of movement around the lake, single individuals and clouds of twenty or more at a time. I can’t think they’ll be here much longer.
In the meantime, there’s a new little black-and-white, yellow-bellied fellow who’s too quick for the camera haunting the eave outside my window. He’s chasing the spiders which have kept me from opening that window all summer, and if I could induce him to nest there year-round, I would do it in a heart beat. Where is that gift of animal telepathy when you need it??

SNOW??? Already? Ew….. I’m still adjusting to the fact that I looked out the window tonight and saw a light layer of frost on the car. And it’s late? Ug. Remind me to stick to Canada.
And I miss you!!!! It’s been forever, and I’m uber-behind on my blogging. How ya been doing lately? Shoot me off an email sometime, I’d love to hear from ya (brian.matheson@unb.ca)
It`s snowing here in Estonia! My dogs are a bit confused;)
Lovely photo! But Brr! In Virginia we’re just having the end of the fall colors, particularly here in the valley. Not cold enough for snow yet.
I have mixed feelings about winter weather. We need to cold to kill bugs and viruses but … it’s cold!
