Weekend mail is usually pretty quiet. Translated, that means that there’s usually none. But this past Friday, in the midst of juggling students with two new online Norwegian courses and trying to get one batch of them (57!) registered and settled on Skype, writing course materials, remembering that I was supposed to be reading a book for a bookclub meeting tomorrow, doing maintenance and enlisting a couple of volunteer moderators for Spinners Home, I got a package.
I know people wonder what they should send family and friends overseas, so let me just share what was in this last parcel from mom.
Sheets. Lovely, 400+ count polished sateen cotton sheets. And no, you can’t find them here. Or rather, if you can, I haven’t found them. I’ve found a grand total of one sheet in three colors (black, white, cream), and the cotton is fairly coarse.
Sheets.
And before you start shaking your head, would you like to guess at what a now-tanned (annoying, isn’t it?) DH brought home in his luggage from Crete this week?
Ready? Wait for it . . .
Tomatoes. Tomatoes, grapes, and feta cheese.
Are you laughing? So did I. But, really, there is a good reason. To say that the Greek cheese is better than the Norwegian feta would be repeating the obvious, but there it is. And, generally speaking, the Norwegian tomatoes have no flavor. I don’t mean they’re mild. I truly mean that they don’t seem to taste like anything. So, he brought home tomatoes. About a dozen along the lines of Big Boys or Beefeaters. Ya gotta love a dude who thinks of bringing home fruits and veggies.
So, the week of chaos has been filled with a lovely package, lovely tomatoes and feta, and lots and lots of rain.
The other thing in the package? This:
The photo doesn’t show it well, but the purple under the flap is actually glittery, rather like the dust on butterfly wings:
And the entire bag is lined with it.
It’s to hold that lapcloth I showed you some time back and was made by the same gal; she just decided I simply had to have one.
But the really cool part? It’s the front:
Seriously, is that just not tooo cute?
I am, quite frankly, totally entertained. How many spinners do you know who have their own tailored bag for their own personal spinner’s lapcloth?

What a wonderful way to send a ‘hug’ through the mail! Love your husbands souveniours!
Tomatoes and feta….yum! Yay Trond! What cleverness.
I love your little butterfly lap cloth holder too… Did your mom make it? It is beautiful. I am sure glad there are people in the world who can sew!
