Blocking

Seraphim was cast off this afternoon. Blocking was . . . interesting. Especially since I’ve never really done it before, and never on this size project. T is on nights (which means sleeping during the day), so blocking on the bed was out. The floors in the house are wood, with the exception of the bedroom and office upstairs. So, that’s where it is, blocking politely, even as we speak. Superficial measurements put it at 240cm from tip to tip, and 120cm from top to bottom. I definitely have to come up with a better blocking solution for my next lace project; this one takes up the entirety of my office! The only reason it fits at all is because I moved the chair out of the room into the hall.

I followed Janice’s instructions and used lots of pins, but I don’t have a neutral-colored sheet in the house. At least, not one I can actually find. Since the yarn is fuschia, however, I figured it couldn’t do much damage to the inside of a red-patterned duvet cover and burgundy pillow case. Even then, I still wound up going a bit off onto the carpet on the corner and bottom tip. I knew the thing would stretch when I blocked it, but I hadn’t quite expected it to go quite this big. I gave it a good stretch, but didn’t stretch it quite as far as I could have simply because I didn’t have space.

I’ll take it down tomorrow morning or late tonight and get a proper picture. In the meantime, here’s what things look like . . .

You know what? Those stripes are really cool! I love how the shawl turned out, congratulations.
I’ll be lurking for those pictures of it unpinned.
