In the comments to the last post, Wanda asked:
When you give lengths you always put ca, what does that mean? I assume the measured yardage is after the yarn has been plyed.
I do measure the yarn after plying, but I do it on a yarn swift while I skein it. I know the starting circumference of the swift and how many times the yarn goes around, but those aren’t precise numbers. The yarn builds up in places and if I’m working with a lot of yardage or a bulky yarn, then it also shapes itself to the swift to a certain extent. That may mean that the first round or two may have 70 inches, while the last may have 73. I’d love to find a more precise way of measuring what I have, but in the meantime, if you see “ca.” in front of a yardage number, you can usually guess that the yardage will be that figure, give or take a little (usually give).
I think I need to find out how other folks measure their yarns.

I usually count the wraps on the niddy noddy which is just as imprecise, but close enough for my purposes.
I’m another niddy noddy wrap counter.
Hi Rhonna,
You’ve been tagged for a meme. Pls visit my blog.
Thanks for answering my question Rhonna.
For now I’ll continue to use a warping board. The pegs are long enough to accommodate plenty of yardage without the yarns building on top of each other. I bought an inexpensive fishing line measure only to find out it’s very innaccurate.
