It’s the little things . . .

that surprise you. I like winter. Really I do. Except for the slosh and wet, I love clear cold days and snow. We’re in a cold spell at the moment, and temps are staying below freezing. It was -4 this morning, and that’s a wee bit warmer than it has been. But little things sometimes catch you off guard. Like this:

That? That’s the front door lock. INSIDE the house. The white stuff? No worries—it’s just ice.

Riiiiight . . .

    *Inside* the house??? Jeezopete.
Have you ever read “Winterdance” by Gary Paulsen? It’s about running the Iditarod. It’s an amazing book. At one point he talks about having a tin of lip ointment or something under all his clothes. It got frozen too. I can’t even imagine cold like that.

What a picture! And a great telling of the story. Perfect.

It reminds me of waking up to a thin coating of frost on the bedcovers when I was a teen living in the far northern end of Arizona where sometimes the temps would drop -0 F. And only a fireplace for heat. Brrr

I’ve come up for a bit of air and to catch up on some blogs after an intense week of work. I loved receiving your email. :-) Please forgive my silence. It’s not for lack of desire to reply, but a mountain of orders that demanded my full attention.
